String Wave
Available · in the studio, Phoenix
The wave before it breaks — string holding the energy of water at the moment of maximum potential.
In String Wave, movement becomes material. Lines of blue and white sweep and fold across the surface, creating the illusion of current and depth. The paint, pulled and guided by string rather than brush, reveals energy made visible — the memory of motion held in rhythm and tension.
This work continues my exploration of gesture as structure — how form can emerge through flow, and how control and surrender coexist within a single movement. Each arc of pigment carries both direction and chance, the path of the string recording an improvisation guided by instinct and resistance.
The blue palette evokes water, air, and the infinite — elements that suggest both presence and absence, solidity and transparency. In this field, the wave becomes metaphor: the eternal motion that connects all things, and the silence that follows its release.
In String Wave, what begins as a technical act transforms into meditation. The wave is not only seen but felt — a vibration between the tangible and the ephemeral, the known and the felt. It stands as a quiet affirmation that movement itself can be an expression of stillness.
Where to see it. In person at RituStudio, Phoenix, by appointment. Represented by Jarrow & Goodman, Los Angeles.
The space it needs
- Wall
- At least 5 ft wide
- Ceiling
- 8 ft or more
- Light
- Warm ambient light enhances organic palette — thread catches light beautifully
- Daylight
- Sea blue, cerulean and ultramarine make a cool palette that stays steady in Arizona daylight and sits easily near glass. Side light from a window catches the thread ridges and gives the wave its crest.
Lives best in
Bedroom 5/5
This is where String Wave belongs most completely, its 5 earned by the way ultramarine deepens toward sleep while the physical thread catches warm ambient light and makes the wave's motion feel like breathing slowing down.
Living room 4/5
String Wave earns a 4 here because its four-foot span of rolling cerulean and silver-white thread animates a shared wall without overwhelming conversation, though a room that leans heavily traditional may feel the wave's restlessness as a mild intrusion.
